THE $40,000 IPOD SHUFFLE
The shuffle is cute as a button and the bling looks good and if you are going to do it then do it all out, right? How about $40,000 worth of 'all out?' Because that is how much this pretty little diamond and gold coated iPod will run you. And for that price no detail is overlooked -- there's even diamonds and gold on the earbuds.

THE WORST DIAMOND ENCRUSTED GADGETS OF ALL TIME
The most remarkable thing about the $24,180 "scattered diamond" is what obvious the underlying mouse is. Looking like an escapee from one of those 1980s Soviet labs where they tried to clone western technology, it has all the style and ergonomic quality of a plastic briefcase. But no, this one has a "constellation" of 59 diamonds sprinkled "bring color into office life and make working truly fun!" They?ll also arrange the rocks into a monograph, if you want to make it even more worthless when you need to get rid of it.

LEONARDO DICAPRIO PARTNERS WITH TAG HEUER
Three-time Oscar nominee and Golden Globe winner Leonardo DiCaprio has signed on to become TAG Heuer?s new ambassador. The Swiss company, founded in 1860, selected the Hollywood actor because of interests in similar causes. Both do not only share the same relentless drive to push innovation and exceed expectations, especially their own, but are also both deeply involved in environmental issues, with DiCaprio having been a relentless activist on behalf of the environment for many years. Profits from sales will be donated to two charities, namely Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC) and Green Cross International. Among the watches DiCaprio will promote is TAG Heuer?s 43-millimeter Carrera Day-Date chronograph, and this week?s Editors Choice. The Carrera is a timepiece reminiscent of the early racing days of the ?Gentlemen Drivers? of the 1950s and has a fixed bezel (of solid gold) with a tachymeter. This exquisite and precise timepiece is the Swiss company?s most successful, except with a twist: by purchasing one, you can do your bit for the environment.

VERTU COBRA THE WORLD'S MOST EXPENSIVE PHONE $310,000
The world's most expensive phone also goes to Vertu's Cobra

Work at Goldman Sachs and/or Morgan Stanley and have a couple extra hundred thousand/million dollars to spend? Then feast your eyes on the Vertu Signature Cobra. For a cool $310,000 you can purchase... a cellphone? Sure, the phone is decked out with precious gemstones (one pear-cut diamond, one round white diamond two emerald eyes and 439 rubies... I don't know what any of those things are, save for the rubies), but does it allow me to watch TV on-the-go? Can I message all those goth'd out hotties on MySpace with it? Can I pull up a Google Map of the local pub? I thought not. If this doesn't prove that we're in another gilded age then I don't know what will.

MITSUBISHI LASERVUE
Mitsubishi Digital Electronics America, Inc. today announced additional details surrounding the performance and functionality of its LaserVue? TV. LaserVue will be available in 65" and 73" models with the 65" Diamond shipping to authorized retailers in the third quarter of this year and the 73" Diamond to follow. LaserVue will raise the bar for large screen television by delivering twice the color at half the power of today's HDTVs while at the same time providing an unparalleled 3D viewing experience.

Laser beams provide the widest range of rich, complex colors, along with the most clarity and depth of field. Precise and focused, the purity of laser light far surpasses current high definition technologies. The color gamut as a percentage of BT.709 for LaserVue prototypes, has been measured at approximately 200 percent, delivering over twice the color of many of today's HDTVs. Brightness has been demonstrated at about 500 nits. Additional features for LaserVue TV include Smooth120hz and x.v.Color.

Mitsubishi LaserVue TVs not only provide the ultimate picture quality, they are also capable of delivering the ultimate 3D viewing experience. With operating power targeted at under 200 watts, they are environmentally friendly, consuming approximately one-half the power of today's LCD TVs, and one-third of plasma TVs. At approximately 10 inches deep, LaserVue TV has been designed for both floor stand and wall-mount applications.

SONY VAIO ZOOM
The Vaio Zoom notebook concept takes everything we know about holographic technology and squeezes it inside a thin glass form factor. When off, the screen is completely transparent and the keyboard goes opaque. Turn it on and the touchscreen holographic festivities begin. Even the mouse buttons are holographic!

It?s just a concept so there?s no info on important tidbits like tactile feedback, battery life, system stats, etc., but rest assured technologies like this are closer than you think. It may not come all at once but it?s coming.
